[+] GETTING AROUND
The prime attraction of Murud is the Janjira Fort, 4 km south of Murud. Boats sail from Rajpur Jetty to Janjira Fort. Rajpur Jetty is 4 km from Murud. Autos run from Murud to Rajpur.
On the way from Rajpur to Janjira the boat will pass by palace of Siddi nawabs. Entry in to the palace premise is no more permitted.
The Janjira Fort has a reputation of being impregnable. It was built 500 years ago by the Siddis, whose diplomatic maneuvers kept the infiltrators like Marathas, Mughals, Portugese and the English at bay. The political astuteness of Siddis didn’t allow even the great Maratha warrior Shivaji to penetrate the fort. He built another fort at Kasa to keep an eye on Janjira, but he could never defeat the Siddis. The steep wall of the fort rises from the edge of the water. One can see 19 towers mounted with cannons and turrets. Three cannons - Kala Bangdi, Chavri and Landa Kasam - are particularly huge.
The Padmadurg Fort in Kasa is the fort that Shivaji built to keep a tab on Siddis. Now desolate fort is still guarded by high walls and six bastions. A few numbers of cannons can still be seen within the crumbling walls of the fort. Private boats can be hired to visit the fort.
